Melissa Hess answered on 18 Feb 2022:
I wanted to cure cancer. My dad passed when I was a teenager, and that was my initial motivation. Thing is, turns out I don’t like biology. I did really like chemistry though, so I went into chemistry. I also had some great teachers who really inspired me as well.

I wanted to become a scientist to help protect the environment. I grew up going to national parks and spending a lot of time in nature, and I want other people to be able to experience that in the future!
