My biggest challenge was getting back into science after I took 9 years off to raise kids. That was hard.
My biggest challenge on a daily basis is how fast people want results. Science takes a lot of time to fully understand things, and it moves on a different timescale than everything else.

Doing the things that are not science related but help support doing the cool stuff. I have recently had to read a lot of state and federal environmental regulations which can be really boring but necessary to understand so we can come up with solutions that will solve the problems the regulations are trying to address.

My biggest challenge is staying focused when I have to do parts of the job that are less fun. Writing isn’t my favorite thing to do, so I get easily distracted when I have to write. I try to solve this by setting aside about 30 minutes at a time where I will just write and not do anything else until that 30 minutes is up!

My biggest challenge in being a scientist is to accelerate scientific innovation. It’s hard to make the product cheaper and more affordable for everyone. As a chemist, we come to work together to tackle these challenges step by step.

My biggest challenge is imposter syndrome. I am lucky, though, to have supportive colleagues who understand!
