So when you are working on a project, there’s this one moment between when you get your results and when you actually relay them to someone. And for that little bit of time, you are potentially the only person in the entire world who knows this fact, and you will always be the first person to know it. Granted, it might not be very significant- you might be the only person who cares how much carbon deposit a specific jet fuel has at a certain temperature and flow rate- but you are the only one who knows. It’s completely dorky and more than a little wierd, but that moment is my favorite thing about being a scientist.

      Hello Mia,

My favorite thing about being a scientist is the process of finding areas for improvement and figuring out ways to make those improvements. Following a ‘scientific method’ to get answers to problems and thinking creatively to fix them.

      Learning.
I am always excited to learn more about a wide variety of topics and how I can use new information to make myself a better person and positively affect the environment around me. That way, when new problems arise, I can implement my learned methods to problem solve.

I love being able to see something and ask why it happens and then go find out. I like working with people from all over on the world to try and solve problems and make life easier and better for people. I even kind of love that you can’t just have a simple conversation when it’s all scientists, it always shifts to projects at least a little bit… it takes someone passionate to make it in academic sciences so you’re surrounded by people that love their work!

The opportunity to solve questions is one of my favorite things about being a scientist! I also think it is really cool that our “office” can be a literal office, or the outdoors, or the lab, depending on what specific field of science you enter and what you enjoy doing!

I love nature and being able to answer questions about things that happen in it. Thus, going to the field to take samples and then arriving at the laboratory to analyze them and find out what is happening, gives me great satisfaction.

My favorite thing about being a scientist is the privilege I have in solving problems that I find interesting. I have the freedom to follow my imagination and study problems that haven’t been solved yet.

It’s giving me the freedom to work on a creative project. When the problem or an issue happened in our process development, I love the process of how we tackle the problem, take a step back to analyze it, and finally solve a tiny problem one step at a time.

My favorite thing about being a scientist is being able to create, it’s just like being an artist. Science sometimes, depending on what you, can be quite a creative process. I have had the opportunity to design and carry out my own experiments, use the instruments it takes to collection the data, then build a story from that data that leads to new discoveries.
