My favorite project was when I was trying to reduce nitric oxide emissions from biodiesel (diesel made from soybeans). It does a lot for the environment and helps farmers maximize their profits- that’s a win for everyone!

My favorite project I have done so far has been studying metal cycling in aquatic environments- these types of projects allow me to do both chemistry analyses, geospatial analyses, and go outdoors to collect samples! Results help contribute to more sustainable management practices.

I designed a waste heat recovery unit for an offshore platform near China when I use to work in the oil and gas industry. The reason the project is my favorite is because my aging boss called my design “dog crap” in front of the customer because he was upset they did not like his design better. My design ended up working wonderfully and still operates to this day as far as I know. While I regret some of the work I did in that industry that project always makes me feel a sense of pride because I stood up for myself and my technical abilities which paid off in the long run.

I got to go to the Galápagos Islands when I was a senior in college and study blacktip sharks! I looked at how their swimming speed varied in the marina where there was a lot of human activity, versus in a reef that not many people accessed.

My favorite project was in the Mediterranean Sea. I was working in a research vessel during one week analyzing the impact of dust from the desert and ultraviolet radiation from the Sun on aquatic organisms.
